1. Describe your approach to your argument of fact.
        i.      What misconceptions are you clearing up?
A lot of people don't know the different kinds of abuse there really is, and a lot of people don't know who is doing the abusing.

ii.      What new information are you providing?
I am providing the definition of each kind of abuse, along with the different kind of people who are doing the abusing.

iii.      What unknown issue are you bringing to our attention?
The unknown issue I am bringing to your attention is that abuse can happen in many different ways and maybe people don't realize that they are actually abusing.

2.      What is YOUR hypothesis: what do you want us to understand?
I want you to understand that a lot of different people can abuse in a lot of different ways. I also want you to understand that you can be abusive without knowing it.

3.      What facts will convince us?
The definitions of each kind of abuse will convince you.

4.      What facts do you still need?

I have all of the information and facts that I need.

I have summarized and read the three scholarly articles that I chose and learned a lot that I didn't already know about. I learned a lot about the different kinds of abuse, like I discussed in the last blog, but I also learned that elder abuse doesn't just happen in the nursing homes. It also happens with families such as financial and neglect. That was very surprising to me to find out because I always just though that elder abuse was just in the nursing homes or by the caretakers. I learned all I needed to know about my research, so there aren't any holes in my study.

I thought it was very helpful for Amy to come in and explain to us how to find sources. There were tons of sources on my subject of Elder Abuse. Of course I used three scholarly sources that helped me a lot and gave me a lot of information. I used key words such as "elder abuse," nursing homes, abuse, etc. When sorting through these sources I learned a lot of different things about my subject such as the different kinds of abuse there was, how to prevent abuse from happening, and how to see the warning signs of an elder who is being abused.

The topic I chose to write about is elder abuse. I chose this because I feel that it is important to realize that this does go on in some places and that it needs to stop. I am researching elder abuse because I want to find out why this happens and how I can help the problem. In order to help readers understand why I’m writing about this problem, I am going to answer all of these questions effectively.
Who does this problem affect?
What is abuse?
What kinds of abuse are there?
How can you prevent abusing/being abused?
What are the warning signs?
How can you go about reporting abuse?
Why does this happen? (people who work, why aren’t the employees screened, etc.)

My topic is important because I know that this is a regular thing that happens. Family members don’t always know that their loved one who is an elder is being abused, and this is why it affects the family members as well as the elder being abused.

My name is Brittany Darnell. I am a freshman this year at WT, and I love the school so much. I recently changed my major from music education to elementary education and I think I finally have found my passion!

One of the issues I am passionate about, and what I decided on writing about is elder abuse. We have researched and we are going to write an annotated bibliography over everything we found out about our subject. I have heard a lot about this subject, and mainly just the gist of everything, so I am hoping to find out more about it and what I as an individual can do to stop it or at least prevent it.
